A story of TWO

Two different journeys met at a crossroads on a cold day in New York, 2022. One contemplated her journey after ten years of building a clothing label and welcoming the next ten. The other began a new journey to stand by herself after 20 years of designing and directing in Fashion.

I met SAYAKA DAVIS while I was working at TIbi. She was an agent for a beautiful Japanese yarn in NY and we have connected since then. When I was about to start my new journey, she suggested for me to join her showroom to show my works to her buyers. As a beginner of new business, it was an grateful and unexpected gift. I believe that there is always a reason when I meet someone. The moment when we met had a reason.

Her journey through 10 years with the brand name ‘SAYAKA DAVIS’ and my new journey with ‘HANNAYOO WORKS’ resemble each other in a way that we both are on the stage of New Beginning as looking for our voice and our trace from the past to move forward.

Here we are now to talk about the past, ‘Now’ moment and our new steps through the Gallery Show called ‘La Toile’ in Tokyo and New York.

La Toile means ‘muslin’ in French. Designers’ idea work begins with cutting and draping muslin. The work of ‘La toile’ is essential to understand the movement and structure of material.

This show will present the process of design, artwork, installation, and clothing from two designers who met in New York during their journey in Fashion.

Hanna Yoo has been in fashion for 20 years with international experience from Seoul, Paris, and New York. This show will be the first step of her ‘Object works’ with the name ‘hannayoo works’. She will present OBJECTS made from Clay, Resin, Porcelain, and Metals connecting to her Jewelry Object collection.

Sayaka Davis is a Japanese fashion designer based in NY, who studied fashion in Japan, and has been designing professionally since 2004. She will present her process of developing design ideas, essential elements of the brand, and hatching new work to celebrate the 10th anniversary of SAYAKA DAVIS.
